S-05Animation & Motion

2D and 3D animation, cast per shot

Animation is where a video stops looking like everyone else's. It is also the line item most often bought on price and regretted on delivery.

AWhy this way

Style frames before motion

We render two static style directions and get one approved before animating anything. Redirecting a look at the frame stage costs a day. Redirecting it once a rig is built costs a fortnight.

The animator is cast, not assigned

Cel animation, 3D simulation and kinetic type are three different disciplines. Our bench lets us put the right specialist on the shot instead of asking a generalist to cover all three at once.

A system, not a one-off

For teams producing continuously, we deliver a motion system of timing curves, transitions, lower-thirds and templates, so your in-house editors can make consistent work between our projects.

BWhat ships

Everything in the delivery folder.

Included as standard, not quoted as extras once the project is already underway.

Style frames
Two directions rendered as static frames before any animation starts.
2D animation
Character, kinetic type, infographic and cel work.
3D and CGI
Product renders, exploded views, environment builds, simulation.
UI motion
Interface animation for product marketing, and specs your engineers can implement.
Motion systems
A documented set of transitions, timing curves and lower-thirds for your in-house team.
Titles
Opening sequences, endcards and animated logo treatments.

CStyles

Four ways we build it.

We recommend one on the first call and tell you what it costs against the alternatives.

  • 2D character

Warmth and personality. Slower to revise once rigged, so boards matter most here.

  • Kinetic typography

Fast, cheap, effective for social and for audio-led content.

  • 3D product

Photoreal or stylised. Shows what a camera cannot, including the inside of things.

  • Data and infographic

Numbers made legible. Rarely the whole film, often the part people remember.

EHow it runs

The same six stages, every time

  1. 01

    Brief

A 45-minute call and a written brief back to you the same week. We ask what the video is competing against for attention, who has to approve it, and what happens if it works. If a video is the wrong fix, this is where we say so.

    Day 1
  2. 02

    Cast

We assign the project from our partner bench: a director, an animator and an editor picked for this brief rather than whoever is free. You see who is on it and the work they have done before, not just a studio reel.

    Days 2–4
  3. 03

    Script

Two drafts. Written against your sales calls and your positioning, not your feature list. Nothing goes to storyboard until the script is approved, because every problem is cheaper to fix here than anywhere downstream.

    Week 1–2
  4. 04

    Board

Style frames and a timed storyboard. You approve the look and the beat structure before a single frame is animated or a crew is booked. This is the last cheap stage, and we use it properly.

    Week 2–3
  5. 05

    Build

Production or animation, sound design, grade and mix. You see a rough cut at the halfway mark rather than a finished film at the end, so notes land while they are still inexpensive to act on.

    Week 3–5
  6. 06

    Deliver

Master file, cutdowns, vertical crops, captions and source project files. Ownership transfers on delivery. The work, the assets and the licences are yours.

    Week 5

FQuestions

Animation & Motion, answered

2D is faster to revise and better for abstract or conceptual ideas: the things software does that have no physical form. 3D earns its higher cost when the subject is a real object, when internals need to be shown, or when the finish itself is the point. For most software explainers, 2D is the right call and the cheaper one.
