Silence is longer than it looks on the page
A held title card runs two to three seconds and reads as an eternity in a 30-second ad. Add them as on-screen beats rather than hoping they compress.
Write ten percent long
Scripts almost always tighten in the edit and almost never lengthen. Coming in slightly over gives the editor something to cut, which is a better problem than a thin edit.
Around 150 words at a standard narration pace, 120 at a deliberate explainer pace, and up to 190 for fast social delivery. Subtract roughly ten words for every held on-screen beat or section pause.
